Day Thirteen: Advances

Tuesday brought on more preparation for the weekend.
I had to write two advances -- one for the "Zeke" Ferguson on Sunday, and one for the Virginia Derby on the 18th. The "Zeke" advance has yet to be posted online since our webmaster forgot about it, and the VA Derby one was sort of skipped over since I had to rewrite it. Darrell had me write it when we weren't sure of what horses were coming and, when we became a little more certain, I had to re-do it. This is the finalized version.
I also did another version of the newsletter and wrote an unexciting article about the jockeys. Nothing eventful happened except for Homeister taking the lead, and Darrell needed a story done.
Much of the day was just manual labor. Water bottles needed to be dropped off at the OTBs in the surrounding areas, so Darrell had me get those from storage and carry them to wherever they needed to go. Six had to go down 4 flights of stairs and out to the parking lot to a woman's car (Molly and I always say how fun it is carrying heavy boxes in four inch heels while guys watch us struggle). Five others had to go around to different floors. And then Darrell sprang on me that I had to deliver a box each to Hampton and Indian River, which my parents weren't at all happy about considering they're in bad areas. So they met me halfway home (45 minutes) and took me around to the OTBs. Let's just say it wasn't a good night and we got home at 2am.
I also tried taking the chart call from Keith. It sounds so easy and I'm so frustrated that I messed it up. I got confused at one of the poles and completely lost it. I'm going to try next time and hopefully I'll get it -- I'm determined to work for Equibase some day!
